Horsham, Montgomeryville and Whitemarsh PA April 28 2006 |
A big piece of SEPTA's Market-Frankford El reconstruction project made its way from Falls Township in Bucks County to its new home at 49th Street in West Philadelphia. The second of two 220 ton concrete beams measuring 195 feet long and 14.5 feet wide, they required a roundabout route, through the heart of Montgomery County along County Line Road, Route 202, Route 309 and Germantown Pike, to get to West Philly. The entourage consisted of two Pennsylvania State Troopers, a pilot truck, the tractor trailer rig with the beams, a backup tractor and another pilot truck at the rear, here at Route 611 and County Line Road. |
Through the trees on County Line Road, you can see the girth of the beams. |
The lead pilot truck approaches Five Points intersection in Montgomeryville. |
With the two State Troopers closing off the intersection, the "slow-moving" convoy was actually making quite good time, as it rolled through every light during its journey. |
Making the big turn through Five Points heading south on Route 309/202. |
About to pass under the R5 Lansdale Doylestown Line near Gwynedd. |
That is a lot of weight on a lot of wheels. |
