Neshaminy Falls PA January 20 2006 |
Looking at the track diagram provided by Ed Calvello, it appears that there were a couple of sidings just north (track east) of Neshaminy Tower, off Track 4 east of Switch 33L34, that provided service to the water pumping plant, now owned by Aqua America, on the north bank of the creek. As only powered switches were depicted on the diagram, these hand thrown switches were not included. |
The buildings on the north end of the plant appear to be part of the original structures. |
This would appear to be part of a coal dump, where the hopper cars would have been on sidings at track level, supported by the concrete columns, and gravity did most of the work. |
This building might have housed the controls for the coal dumper. |
As the concrete colums continue north through very mature trees, the sidings were probably removed decades ago. From the existing layout and what remains of the roadbed, it appears the sidings were double-ended, with one on the piers and the other on ballast adjacent to Track 4, where they connected with that track just north (track east) of the plant. |
