Railfan Pictures of the Day - 11/17/2005

SEPTA West Trenton Line and CSX Trenton Line Neshaminy Falls PA November 16 2005

With warm temperatures, wind gusts and scattered clouds, it wasn't good day for video but it was a nice day for a walk. Out along the SEPTA West Trenton Line, the wire train powered by recently turned West Chester Railroad RS18u 1803 was working on Track 1 while SEPTA locals, like this train # 349 led by Silverliner IV 402, used Track 2.
Foreman Smith and crew cleared Nesh interlocking in time for X176 to pass. The power for this baretable train was a pair of GEVO's, CSX ES44DC's 5298 and 5299, the last two units of the order. In the distance approaching Neshaminy Falls Station is the nb SEPTA local train # 352.
As X176 passed, the race was on. From a dead stop, Silverliner IV 290 trailed at first .......
... but started to make up the difference as they both passed the wire train. If I would give this picture have a title, it would be called "Man and Machines".
As they passed under Route 1, the MU's were catching up to X176, which would have to wait for the local to pass at Woodbourne before the CSX freight could head up Track 2 to CP Wing.
Meanwhile, the old Alco was doing what Alco's do best: (as Jim Carrey would say) SMOKIN!
