| Amtrak Northeast Corridor Cornwells Heights PA October 2005 |
| On October 31 2005 New Jersey Transit took over the operation of the trains in the time slots formerly occupied by the last of the Amtrak Clockers. The Clockers were the last of a series of trains that departed from Philadelphia and New York almost every hour on the hour. Started under the Pennsylvania Railroad, most of the trains were supplanted by the Metroliners and later, the Acela Express runs. When the Acela units were sidelined this past summer due to problems with their brakes, Amtrak suffered from a shortage of equipment and turned over operations of several of the remaining Clockers to NJT, which operated them out of their new Morrisville PA Yard, starting their runs to New York with the first stop Trenton NJ. The take over of the two remaining Clockers that originated out of Philadelphia, and the afternoon return trips out of New York, was previously announced for 2006, but that process was accelerated. The last run of Clocker 630, which was scheduled to depart Philadelphia at 6:00, ran 20 minutes late and was pulled by a couple of AEM-7's. The last Clocker out of Philadelphia, Clocker 624, departed Philadelphia at 6:30, and made a last stop at North Philadelphia at 6:41 before its last departure from Pennsylvania at Cornwells Heights at 6:55. Ironically, 624 has been pulled by NJT engines for the past two years, with ALP-46 4610 having the honors on the last train. |
