Railfan Pictures of the Day - 06/15/2005
CSX Bethlehem Branch Hatfield PA June 14 2005 |
On the afternoon of June 13 2005, CSX local B735 had three covered hoppers derail while working at Jet Plastica in Hatfield PA. The cars, loaded with plastic pellets, remained upright and there was minimal damage. Terra was called out to clean up, bringing a couple of sidewinders to do the job, which they started the next morning. By 8:45 AM on June 14 2005, Terra had already moved TILX 620586 out of the way, had rerailed the single axle on DOWX 22493 and shoved it onto the siding. Here a pair of sidewinders work on CEFX 50045. |
After rerailing the trailing truck, they attach a cable to the south end on the car to secure it while they move the sidewinders to the north end where it will lift the lead truck back on. |
It's as simple as following the written instructions: PULL HERE, LIFT HERE (no jacking this time). The oak blocks are used to guide the wheels during the rerailing procedure. |
The sidewinder deploys the outrigger weight to counterbalance the car as it is lifted. |
The car is slowly moved down to a good section of rail and guided back on the track. |
Once it is rerailed, the sidewinders walk the car down the siding and out of the way. |
