NS Harrisburg Line Bridgeport PA December 5 2004

NS C40-9W 9198 leads empty slab train 68Z under the Dannehower Bridge into Bridgeport PA
Trailing unit was NS high hood GP38-2 5050. The track to the right is the former Bridgeport scale track. As for the sign, the W is to alert the engineer to whistle for the approaching grade crossings just around the curve, the MX tells the train crews that there are multiple crossings close together (actually a block apart) at Mill Street, Depot Street and Ford Street. The bridge just ahead of the train is for SEPTA's Route 100 Norristown High Speed Line, known to many oldtimers by its former name, the Philadelphia and Western, or just the P&W.
CR 604658 G42B former Pennsylvania Railroad gondola with bulkheads
CR 585316 is a former Missouri Pacific gondola. Because of the corrugated sides, these cars are often mistaken for a Pennsylvania Railroad G44 gondola. Conrail bought many used gondolas, like this one and the one below, in the 1990's.
CR 585402 appears to be a former Louisville and Nashville car. Throughout the years, Conrail was kind enough to stencil heritage reporting marks on many of its equipment, usually on the rightmost panel near the top of the car (this was probably related to lease agreements).
Conrail 581036 is a G47 class car acquired during the Penn Central years.
CR 576700, a G43A built by the Pennsylvania Railroad, has its PC heritage number stenciled on the top of the panel above the class designation just below the top chord, as did the G47 above.
CR 588582, class G52P with Conrail Quality logo, also has its PC heritage number above the class and below the lease agreement blurb sometimes found on many newer cars.

For more Conrail gondolas, check out the Conrail Cyclopedia.
