Gutta-Percha Gutta-Percha is a natural product made from the sap of trees in Malaysia, a British colony. It was first found to be a telegraph wire insulator and of under water marine cables. Founded in 1847 in the UK. In 1883 they were the largest all-Canadian rubber company. Tires were long a major product as was rubber footwear. It was also used in dentistry. Synthetic products changed everything. Production of automobile tires ended in 1948 and footwear in 1954. It closed April 25, 1960. Gutta-Percha plant Parkdale.
