2009 Events & Schedules

This is a listing of Museum Members events for the year 2009 (see The Northern Light for more details).

Museum Events Schedule

Public Walking Tours. Saturdays, Spring through Fall, 10 AM to 4 PM. Open to all visitors. Volunteers are needed to help guide visitors through the Musuem.

Scheduled Work Sessions. Every Saturday from 10am to 5pm. For other days, contact Ralph Pfingsten or Walt Stoner at 330-769-5501. Volunteers of all ages, genders, and skills are needed.

Media Nights. 1st Friday of the month (except in March, July, and August). Doors open at 7:45 PM, activities begin at 8 PM. Media nights are open to the public.

Media Nights are held at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 7171 Pearl Road in Middleburg Hts. The church is located on Pearl Road two blocks north of Bagley. Please drive to the building at the rear of the property and enter that building. Doors open at 7:45 PM.

Directors Business Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month. Meetings start at 7:30 pm at the community room of the National City Bank located at the corner of Lake and Chippewa Roads, in Chippewa Lake, Ohio. Summer meetings are held at the Museum. Meetings are open to all members.

  • January 3rd - Friday, Media Night.
  • January 27th - Directors Business Meeting.

  • February 6th - Friday, Media Night.
  • February 24th - Directors Business Meeting.


  • March 7th - Saturday, Annual Meeting: The annual meeting will be held at the Seville United Methodist Church, 74 West Main Street, Seville, Ohio. Dinner will begin at 6:30 PM. The dinner will be served family style and will include baked chicken, potatoes, vegtable, salad, rolls & butter, dessert and iced tea and coffee.


  • For entertainment, Jim Toman will present Cleveland Scenes from the Bruce Young Collection at Cleveland State University. Non-members are welcome. Please contact Bob Thompson at (216) 313-4655 in advance of the meeting to reserve a seat.

  • March 22nd - Sunday, Greater Wayne County Train & Toy Show, Buckeye Event Center, 624 Henry Street, Dalton, Ohio 10 AM to 3 PM.
  • March 24th - Directors Business Meeting.


  • April 3rd - Friday, Media Night. David Marigold presents Pullman Passenger Cars.
  • April 5th - Sunday, N.O.R.M. at the Medina Model Railroad & Toy Show, Medina County Community Center, Medina Fairgrounds, Medina, Ohio, 10 AM to 4 PM.
  • April 28th - Directors Business Meeting.


  • May 1st - Friday, Media Night. Blaine Hays presents the complete Toronto trolley scene.
  • May 2nd - Saturday, Museum opens for public tours through October, 10 AM to 4 PM. Volunteers are needed.
  • May 9th - Saturday, 45th Buckeye Model Trains & Railroad Artifacts Show & Sale at the Lausche Building, Ohio Expo Center, Columbus, Ohio, 9 AM to 4 PM.
  • May 16thth - Saturday, Training session for the Museum Walking Tour guides and Museum Store personnel, 10 AM.
  • May 23rd - Saturday, N.O.R.M. displays at the Veterans Memorial Bridge/Subway Tour, FREE 9 AM to 3 PM.
  • May 23rd - Saturday, Walking tours start at N.O.R.M., 10 AM to 4 PM.
  • May 26th - Directors Business Meeting.


  • June 5th - Media Night. Blaine Hays presents Interurbans, including the Youngstown & Southern, Pittsburgh, Lisbon & Western, the Toledo & Eastern, the Toledo Edison Company (Acme Station) and the South Shore Line.
  • June 23rd - Directors Business Meeting at the Museum.


  • July 10th - Friday, N.O.R.M. outing at the Northern Ohio Live Steamers, with food, 7 PM til dark.
  • July 28th - Directors Business Meeting at the Museum.


  • August 3rd - 8th - Saturday, N.O.R.M. at the Medina County Fair, volunteers are needed.
  • August 15th and 16th - Saturday and Sunday, Members Weekend Open House. Sunday picnic, eat at 2 PM.
  • August 25th - Directors Business Meeting at the bank.


  • September 4th - Friday, Media Night.
  • September 5th - Saturday, N.O.R.M. displays at the Veterans Memorial Bridge/Subway Tour, FREE 9 AM to 3 PM.
  • September 22nd - Directors Business Meeting.


  • October 2nd - Friday, Media Night. Ralph Pfingsten will do a program on the Ravenna Aresenal, which was built to support the war effort in WWII. The program will be based on the material Ralph developed for his forthcoming book on the Arsenal. This is a program not to be missed.
  • October 3rd and 4th - Saturday and Sunday, National Model Railroad Association, Division 4 Mid-Central Region, Carnival '09 at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, Berea, Ohio. Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 4 PM.
  • October 25th - Sunday, Medina Train Show.
  • October 27th - Directors Business Meeting.


  • November 1st - Sunday, Erie, Pennsylvania Show, 10 AM to 4 PM.
  • November 6th - Friday, Media Night. Jerry Deucher will present a train or trolley program from the 40's and 50's. Jerry's programs are always good.
  • November 8th - Sunday - Wayne County Railroad Show Dalton, Ohio. 10 AM to 4 PM.
  • November 24th - Directors Business Meeting.


  • December 4th - Friday, Media Night. This is the annual holiday Media Night! Food, films, and fun! Blaine Hays, will present a program on either Philadelphia or Russ Schram's slides. Tonight's media night is not to be missed - a good time will be had by all.
  • December 12th - Saturday, 45th Buckeye Model Trains & Railroad Artifacts Show & Sale at the Lausche Building, Ohio Expo Center, Columbus, Ohio, 9 AM to 4 PM.
  • December 22nd - (tentative) Directors' Business Meeting. Dinner meeting at a location TBD.
