The meeting was held at the Safety and Health Council of New Hampshire. President Griffin called the meeting to order at 7 pm.
The minutes of the meeting of November 26, 2002 were reviewed and accepted. The December meeting was cancelled due to inclement weather.
Treasurer Steve Flanders reported that the current bank balance was $781.94.
It was noted with great sadness that longtime NHRRA member and supporter Rep. James Whittemore had died. President Griffin commended Jimmy Whittemore for longtime support of NHRRA and rail revitalization in NH. He will be sadly missed.
Rep. George Katsakiores provided a legislative update on three bills. The first bill is to establish a study committee for the Lincoln line; the second is to create a revenue stream for transportation; and a third that addresses recodifaction of rail laws had hearings. He also commented that a bill relating to trespassing on rail lines would again be introduced. A similar bill was defeated in the previous legislative session. He also commented that he was unsure of the status of the rail liability bill held over from the previous session.
President Griffin commented that this meeting was intended as a workshop. Its purpose was the review the mission of NHRRA – its current status and where we are going. There were questions about the current committee structure. It was agreed that for the next meeting a committee list would be provided.
Also discussed were outreach opportunities such as rail shows and other such groups. An example given was an upcoming show in Epsom to discuss the history of the Blueberry Express, which ran on the old Suncook Line.
We will continue to explore the many aspects of NHRRA in the next meeting. The next meeting is scheduled for February 25, 2002 to commence at 7 PM. The location is to be at the office of the Safety and Health Council of NH. Refreshments will be served.
The meeting adjourned at 9 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Peter Griffin, President
NHRRA
