Status of Railroad Police Officers

• FRA definitions of railroad police
• Mass. law allowing appointment of railroad police as Special State Police Officers
• According to an article on page 3 in the April, May, June 2001 Guilford Express magazine, each GRS Police officer is certified in full time police academy training and is commissioned as a Special State Police Officer within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Railroad Police authority for enforcing laws on railroad property should be taken very seriously, and if you should have to deal with a Railroad Police Officer, treat the encounter the same way as you would with any other state or local police officer.
