Status of Railroad Police Officers

• FRA definitions of railroad police
• Mass. law allowing appointment of railroad police as Special State Police Officers
• According to an article on page 3 in the April, May, June 2001 Guilford Express magazine, each GRS Police officer is certified in full time police academy training and is commissioned as a Special State Police Officer within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. [Note that the FREE Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to read the magazine!]

Railroad Police authority for enforcing laws on railroad property should be taken very seriously, and if you should have to deal with a Railroad Police Officer, treat the encounter the same way as you would with any other state or local police officer.
