When Tomytec (part of Takara Tomy Co. Ltd. of Japan) started its extensive and easily powerable Tetsudou Railway Collection in 2006, it focused exclusively on models of vehicles on smaller Japanese railways and later added Japanese trams. This singular focus on Japanese vehicles changed in 2017 when, in apparent partnership with European distributors, it launched a new World Railway Collection product line. So far, this line includes Adtranz GT6 3-section articulated trams and Tatra T3, T4 and B4 trams, all designed to take advantage of already-produced Tomytec power chassis to easily make them operable N-gauge models. Even though the real T4 trams are narrower than the T3 versions, Tomytec uses the same T3-based bodyshell for both. A similar situation exists with the Adtranz models, with the same body shell representing "Normalspur" (GT6N) standard gauge, "Meterspur" (GT6M) gauge and "Schmalspur" (GT6S) narrow gauge prototype variants. - R.
