BRAWA of Germany is long-established in the field of model railway products, among other fields. Their product line in early years focused on scenic items and accessories, including working model lights and animated items in HO and smaller scales (and later including Eheim products). At one point BRAWA produced static models in N scale of electric railway vehicles of the Oberrheinische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (OEG), the Upper Rhein Railway Company, a meter-gauge railway serving Mannheim, Heidelberg and Weinheim. These vehicles, known as Halbzüge or "half trains," entered service in 1928, when the Mannheim-Heidelberg line was electrified, and operated as permanently-coupled motor/trailer pairs. The BRAWA models of these narrow-gauge vehicles are too narrow to be powered to operate on 9 mm N-gauge track, although using 6.5 mm Z-gauge (1:220) power units and track might be an option. - R. D.
