The engine is used for freight and personal trains. To heat the personal trains, it has a steam-boiler (Vapor-Hagenuk OK 4616 - 800 kg/h or Clayton RO 1650 - 750 kg/h). The locomotive's gear is diesel-electric, manufactured by Ganz-MÁVAG, between 1966-1970.

The locomotive is used for easy freight and personnel trains. Its specially generator has heating and branch working coils. The interesting of this engine, that can controllable from controlling car. In this case, there is not engine driver on the locomotive. The locomotive is manufactured by the Ganz MÁVAG, from 1973. Its transmission is hydraulic.

I haven't readings about M42s. This engine is a prototype, this only one has been made. Its diesel motor has 12 cyls, the gear is electrical. An electronic regulator disposes the motor's revolution and the excitation of generator. So, there are several problems. It can't tolerates the stronger clashes, thought these are often occur during shunting.

These engines manufactured by 23rd August Locomotive Factory, in Rumanien, from 1974. These have some designs, the following ones:

M43-1000
For easy shunting services and conveying easy freight trains.

M47-1000
For middle-heavy shunting services and conveying easy freight trains.

M47-1200
These locomotives are renewed by the Vehicle Repairer Enterprise at Szombathely. These have six-cylinders Mercedes diesel motor and Voith hydraulic gear.

M47-2000
For conveying easy personnel trains on branch lines.

The locomotives are manufactured by Locomotive Factory, Voroshilovgrad, Soviet Union, between 1965-1974. These engines have a legend: When the first piece of M61s arrived from Sweden, -reputedly- didn't stopped in Hungary, went to East. After some times the M62s were made...

So, these locomotives' job is same, like M61: Conveying passenger trains and heavy freight trains on intercity lines. The difference: M62 can not heat. Therefore, it have to drag a train-heating car...

Because it became necessary to procure a power current diesel locomotive for conveying passenger trains. So, the Hungarian Railways given an order to Ganz-MÁVAG, build locomotives with the adequate parameters. In 1971, the engine was made:

In 1950s, the engineers of Ganz-MÁVAG began to plan a diesel locomotive for intercity lines. The prototype was made in 1958. On one of its long-distance trial, the one of the piston-rods was broken. The trials have not been continued.

Diesel-electric train-heating car

Because not the all locomotives can heat the trains electrically, moreover, there is locomotive, which can heat with nothing, it became necessary to build a train-heating car. Its diesel motor drives a generator, what develops the needed 1500V 50Hz alternating current for heating. This diesel motor is equal with M40s diesel motor. The difference: In heating-car, the motor ha two electric starter, what are functioning independently from one another.
