BNSF and Predecessors Lee Hower- Klamath Falls in October 1970 and March 1972 |
|
Railroad mergers and run-through power agreements in the late 1960s and early 1970s resulted in a wide variety of locomotive types andpaint schemes that could show up on many railroads, especially those handling a lot of overhead traffic like BN's line through Klamath Falls. Lee Hower caught this fascinating array of power during a visit to GN's Klamath Falls yard and shop facilities in October 1970. |
A Western Pacific GE-built U-30B. |
A pair of GP-9s, BN #1775 and GN #703. |
An overview of the yard finds a set of mostly former SP&S power switching in the yard. |
On a return visit in March 1972 Lee found the SD-9/GP-9 power set for the OC&E, then being operated by the BN, tied up next to the shop. |
Also on hand is BN GP-9 #1780, still in full GN paint. |
