The site before the construction crews started

As of Jan 6, 1996 when authorization
for construction was granted, this is what the future site of the
GIRR looked like. All the trees came out and the roots were rather
laboriously dug out.
This area had been essentially abandoned as the chief engineer
didn't even recognize that the two trees in the background were
even there until planning had started.
