The coupling method used a linkage with a central buffer. Here
are two goods wagons at Asmara Station. I do not know what the European
terminology is for these two cars. I would call the left hand car
a flat car and that on the right a gondola. I have stretched the shaddows
here to show detail of the coupling. Notice that the coupling link
is below the buffer. There are no brake lines. The abscense of whole
train braking is substantiated in Jane's
World Railways. A rather frightening thought for a mountain railway.
