I passed near Smokey Road while driving east of Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
September, 2021
It's mostly wood now, but notice the new steel H column pilings driven in. |
.
I looked at it a week later. The road would be closed if the sign would be in the middle of the road. |
Concrete beam trays have arrived |
.
.
And might they have come to town on this train that passed westbound through Waupaca on September 21. (thank you to the Virtual Railfan You Tube Waupaca Depot webcam, they do a great service)
|
I don't know if two carloads were set out at Point and then came back on the local switch job and unloaded here. Or, were they trucked from Point to here? But that would have needed an extra crane lift in Point to do that. If it was my model railroad, I would unload a rail car at Smokey Road. That crane sure is big enough. |
.
The year 2021 is cast in concrete. But not the railroad name. |
And a backhoe is parked here now. |
The piling caps and approach span supports have been poured. |
.
Two miles west of Smoky Road is Custer Road. which was updated a few years ago. This is what the new bridge should look like, a concrete tray span holding a ballasted approach, and a long steel beam span to keep up the road clearance. |
I will guess a large longer steel beam bridge span will have to arrive at Smoky Road in a month or so,
and after the concrete has hardened for 30 days.
And there will probably be a long M.O.W .day with no trains.
