Frosty Hoover Avenue Railroading

Frosty Hoover Avenue Railroading

Monday January 4, 2021.
We had a frosty day on Sunday, and surprisingly the frost just kept growing into Monday. We usually don't have 2 or 3 frosty days in a row.
Also, foggy, all day long. Some sunshine would help, but then the frost melts.

I had a 'heads up' from the Waupaca depot webcam that train 491 was coming, and I watched it pull to a stop by Hoover Avenue.

.

.

The wire fence on the street overpass has been growing ice crystals

.

An eastbound Q train (stacks) roars by.

.

The conductor of 491 is inspecting the other side. It's 25 degrees F.

.

And the DPU roars out from under the bridge.

.

The Q has passed, and here's a view of a BC Rail on 491. It's still a foggy day, so this is not the day I had hoped for.

.

There's five locomotives on this relatively short train to Rapids. Maybe there is a need for power for Taylor Subdivision sand trains coming back?
This train used to have a hundred cars when the big paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids was operating. But that idled in 2020.

.

A half dozen empty Marquis alcohol tanks roll by. That's a sure sign this is train 491.
Eventually, these will end up at the Necedah alcohol plant.

.

Some TILX hoppers, and I don't know if this is paper mill starch for Biron.

.

I don't know these.

.

These red / white empty cars can loaded with alcohol at Necedah, too.
Usually, the top cover of white cars gets a protective plastic bag on loaded cars, but this one has a bag, too.
