Amherst Junction Aerial View of the Railroad

Amherst Junction, Wisconsin, USA.
A nice little town with interesting railroad tracks.
This view is looking east, and I put a blue line on the picture to show where the Green Bay and Western crossed over the Wisconsin Central.

And the word 'Depot' shows the location of the long-gone two-level depot that had steps down to the lower track.

.

.

The GBW right of way going southwest toward Plover, it's the Tomorrow River Trail (west half).
I can squint at the picture and see 4 bicyclists. There is a convenient parking place and rest room area in downtown Amherst Junction to start a westward trip.
.

Below is a panoramic wide view of the farm service buildings at the east end of the GBW spur.
Train service is as-needed, I could guess once a week by a noon local from Stevens Point.
I put a blue line on the horizon to show the trail remaining; the tracks end close to the edge of town.
The trail doesn't travel through town, you have to make your own connection over town roads out in those hills on the horizon. Try the Cate County Park.
.

Looking southeast, a westbound train is coming. The colorful containers on the upper right are coming out of Amherst.
The locomotive headlights are in the cut and partly hidden in the shadows of the trees.
.

.

And away they go west, under US Highway 10

.

Looking way west as they parallel US 10
.

.

.

And in 20 minutes, an east bound appears.

It's easy to know when an east bound is coming, there's a scanner and a grade crossing and some horn blowing.
(It's hard to hear a westbound, there's no grade crossings, and that deep cut and trees muffle the sounds.)

.

It's oil, there's 2 locomotives and a buffer car.

After that train stopped in Nelson siding to clear another train, it went past the Waupaca Depot Webcam:
