Coal trains come through town every day or two. But not always at the same time. This is an empty southbound, rolling alongside State Highway 13 and the paper mill. |
A lot of people don't like coal trains in Rapids. There is no highway overpass on this side of town, and people have to wait or take a 2 mile detour. I don't mind, if I am lucky enough to be the first in line, so other autos don't block my view. At least coal trains usually keep moving, even if its only 20mph. Sand trains might sit at the secondary streets for a long time. |

The old feed mill on Grand Avenue is now Metcalf Lumber WPS cars from Weston, Wisconsin Public Service power plant. |
