Hoover Avenue Overpass May 2017

Here's a picture of Hoover Avenue in 2010, a busy grade crossing on the east side of Stevens Point, Wisconsin
.

There's not many autos on this side, they got tired of waiting and turned around and left.

.

The city started in 2016 to get ready for the overpass.
One big change for photography is that they cut many pine trees from the south side of the tracks. Now there is a view.

.

So here's my situation this Spring day in 2017. I made a new portable kite reel and i am testing it on a day with (too strong) 17 mph winds that are gusting into the 20's. I am standing on the grass east of this construction. And I am at ground level, I can't see over the gravel ramp. But I can hear a 'WHIR- RUP' of an air compressor starting up on some big GE AC engine. And I had almost taken the kite camera down because I didn't know a train was coming.

.

And this camera is point and shoot withour benefit of remote viewing.
So I missed the lead locomotive. Oh well, there will be plenty of others. I usually expect a train every 45 minutes, except for an early afternoon lull.

.

The Point yard is a gray blur way up on the upper left of the picture.
Hoover Avenue is totally closed, the original blacktop was about 100 feet west / behind the new ramp.

.

There's not much for the railroad to do during this construction, but there is a lot of construction equipment and trailers parked a half mile away.

.

When construction workers are on site, there is also a railroad M.O.W foreman flagging trains past the construction site, so that's a little extra action for the railroad. It looks like the concrete form chairs are in place on the abutments, so fairly soon there will be a lot of temporary beams going up for pouring the concrete deck. While that is going on, there may be some train delays.

When it is done, there will be a sidewalk on the east side of the overpass, and some parking nearby, and the Green Circle Trail to walk or bicycle on.
