Central Wisconsin got some snow. Plowed snow banks have reached 3 feet high. Temperatures went below 0 F for a few days. There's few places left to park a car on the side of a street, and I think Stevens Point has more snow than Wausau which is further north.
Here's a paper mill switch job in Wisconsin Rapids, picking up Clay tank cars for the daily mill switch run. |

And there was an icy rain for a few hours, enough to get school cancelled for 2 days.
And it made the snow heavy.
Fortunately there was no real ice damage to trees and wires here, not like Oklahoma and Kansas had.
I saw the truck blower Air Forced One working after dark to clean switches, but it was cold outside, and I didn't attempt a picture.
And the old Wisconsin Central diesel switch blowers were around, one came to Plover, parked overnight. |
After the ice, the snow plows came around. (and foggy weather) Here is one by Bonow Avenue near milepost 50 on the north side of Rapids. They just pushed up that ridge of snow, before I could get a picture of the action. |
and at the same time, here is a Kershaw working just around the corner clenaing the yard tracks. |
The city and railroad are hauling snow to make room to plow more. The city piles theirs by the Wisconsin River and the railroad piles theirs by the Wye on the northwest side of Rapids. I would guess that keeps the piles separate in case of contamination from whatever is scraped up? |
And in a week, it seems the Snow Fiters have plowed their way across all of central Wisconsin. Here are the tell-tale snow banks near Patch Street and the P-Line. |
