Destruction of the Whiting Paper Mill

Looking way up the Wisconsin River, I see the modern steel building of the machine room is almost stripped.

.

The coal power plant is still there. I don't know if it will be coming down.
The rusty rails still go through the gate and the blue flags have been there two years.

They hauled in gravel and pushed it into mounds. I don't know what that is for,
maybe 'site remediation' to fill basements
or a 'blast shield' to catch debris if they blow down the concrete structures?

The sand pile on the right is by the two-side retaining walls that used to hold the wood chip pile.

.

Here's a poor aerial picture from two weeks earlier, when most of the machine room was still there.
It seems they are saving the loading docks on the north (right) end.
Still handy to load out semi's. Although, a lot of scrap metal is leaving in open-top semi-trailers of the steel salvage companies.
