.
I've been near the Straits only 4 times in 35 years.
I have always lived at least an 8 hour drive away.
Here's pictures from 2009, the last time I was there.
The railroad car ferries were long gone, but the slip was still there in St. Ignace.
It was nice to see the Huron Boardwalk of St. Ignace go right past the old ferry slip.
In 2011, the supports fell down, and it doesn't look like this anymore.
When I took my pictures in 2009, I took enough to help people model it,
but I didn't have intentions of my own to incorporate it on a model railroad.
This was part of a hoist to match the apron height to the ferry. It used to be inside a small building. See the picture links at the bottom of this page for older photos.

I was glad to see some signs set up within sight of the slip to show the history of this area. I copied this much to remember them. |

Link to some newer scans of my old slides of Chief Wawatam in 1979 . I have older web pages of these, but these are larger scans. Some people have printed from my small scans of these slides years ago, but these are bigger files than what I had on my web page that I made in 2003.
