Willamette & Pacific (WPRR) and it's sister railroad, Portland &
Western, was formed in 1993 when they leased 185 miles of deteriorated track
from Southern Pacific. They operate from Astoria - Portland - Eugene, Oregon.
They are wholly owned subsidiaries of Connecticut-based Genesee & Wyoming
Inc.
Although P&W supposedly operates the northern portion of the system,
I observed only WPRR locomotives throughout the system and the only P&W
logo I saw was on a crew facility in Eugene. WPRR was featured in Sept 2000
TRAINS.

in SP's early diesel "Black Widow" scheme to commemorate it's original owner
and W&P's heritage.
