The
Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad Company (SOO LINE)
dates back to the 1880's. Most of their service area was North Dakota,
Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan's UP. In 1985 they acquired many remnants
of the Milwaukee Road extending their domain into Iowa. Canadian Pacific
owned a majority interest in the SOO for many years and purchased all the
stock in 1992 and operated it as a wholly owned subsidiary. The SOO was
folded into CP Rail in the late 1990's.
