Canadian National (CN) was formed in 1919 when the Canadian government
took over several bankrupt railroads for the public good; creating a trans-Canada
railroad. The CN was privatized in 1995 and the acquision of Illinois Central
in 1999 extended their domain to the US Gulf Coast. Acquiring Wisconsin
Central in 2001 and Great Lakes Transportation (DMIR) in 2004 is their latest
expansions. CN operates 19,000 miles of track.
You may see rolling stock lettered "Canadien National"; a bilingual
theme CN introduced in the 1960's. CN was the feature article in Nov '02
