The Thane-Vashi EMU service was flagged off by Shri. Laloo Prasad Yadav (Hon. Railway Minister) on the 19th of November 2004. Initially the route had 12 services per day and was later increased to 22 (in December 2005), to 34 w.e.f. October 05, 2006 and then to 42 w.e.f. December 01, 2006. It was then increased to 54 (w.e.f March 15, 2007), and then further increased to 58 (w.e.f. July 01, 2007). On October 02, 2007 another set of increase was announced, and it now stands at 66 (w.e.f. October 02, 2007). One new railway station - Rabale (between Airoli and Ghansoli) was opened on June 21, 2007 by the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh.
Update: Number of services in the route now increased to 78 w.e.f February 22, 2008
Initially one 9-car rake (Sanpada Carshed) was used for this service. In October 2006 - One more rake (#353-#355) was pressed into service thus increasing the number of services by 12. Currently three rakes are used to run this service. The running time of this route, initially, was 40 minutes. It is now 28 minutes, with an average speed of 40.71 kmph. First and Second class accomodation is available in this train. The end-to-end fare on this train is Rs. 10 (Second Class) and Rs. 83.
