A Visit To Washington, D.C.
Monday, September 22nd, 2003

I took a Washington Metro Rail Subway from Union Station to a station near the White House where I was given directions on how to get to Pennsylvania Avenue so I could see the White House. I had to learn very quickly how the subway system works here as no two subway systems are ever the same. On this page is a collection of photos I took while spending a very warm September Afternoon in our Nation's Capital.

The U.S. Treasury Building, for easy reference, look at the back of any $10.00 bill, this is that building!

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, shown in this photo, yes, The White House. It was quite a thrill being able to see this in person.

Marine One, the Helicopter seen in the center of this photo. This was taken after it had taken off from the South Lawn of the White House, all of us were asked to wait by a Secret Service Agent until after the helicopter had left the White House Grounds.

The South Lawn Of The White House, very nicely landscaped.

Turn around and you'll see The Washington Monument. What a sight!

The United States Supreme Court, our Nation's Highest Court.

The Capitol Building.
After taking the majority of my slides, I went back to Union Station and had a big dinner at McDonald’s before picking up a copy of the latest issue of Trains Magazine. I then went back out again to take the above photo of the Capitol Building which was a quarter mile walk from Union Station. There was a lot of construction going on at the Capitol as most of the building was roped off with construction crews everywhere. After taking some slides of the Capitol as well as the U.S. Supreme Court building, I walked back to the station because the sky looked very threatening so I thought I’d better get back quick! I I decided to wait out the rest of the evening in the station.
I took a walk around the huge mall inside the station which was very busy. I then picked up my 2 suitcases and walked over to Gate H – Track #24 where my train, Train #66 – The Federal would be waiting for boarding. I found an outlet to plug in and charge my cell phone and I had a nice chat with two passengers heading to North Carolina, waiting for Train #91 – The Silver Star to arrive.
