In case you're wondering why they use so many P32's in Albany, its because since these trains are going to New York Penn Station which is underground, they need locomotives that can switch between Diesel and Third-Rail power. These locomotives were specifically designed for this and that would explain why they don't venture too far out of New York State.
Doing some work in the yard near the station, is this F40PH #274, seen parked on a track just to the north of the station at one of the ends of the platforms.
Arriving in Albany is Train #253, a regular New York-Albany train with P32AC-DM #709 leading as the train prepares to stop on the Main Track where it terminates for the day.
Seen on Track #2 is Amtrak's Train #294 with P32 #714 at 4:13pm.
This is the Baggage Car from #294, the special Ethan Allen Express. The train will be serviced on this track before heading to New York.
Now departing Albany-Rensselaer station and heading for the yard is train #253 which just terminated for the day.
On this day, Train #68 was running a couple hours late coming from Montreal, so Amtrak decided to run an "On-Time" section of Train #68. Seen here, this is the shortest Amtrak Train I've ever seen, with 1 cafe car and 1 Amfleet I Coach. This train was put together rather quickly, serviced and would leave Albany "on time" for New York. The train is seen here pulling into the station at 5:12pm.
At 5:12pm, Train #283 arrived in Albany with 2 P32's, #706 and 707 respectively. This train is familiar to us in Buffalo but it doesn't arrive there until well after sunset.
Arriving on the Main Track at 6:17pm is the Northbound Ethan Allen Express #291 with another P32 on the lead, this time #710.
Now arriving in Albany is Train #49 which would be my train to Ohio. P32AC-DM #704 pulled it up here from New York and it only made one stop in Croton-Harmon before arriving here. The train would pull into Track #2 and sit and wait for #449 from Boston to arrive. Passengers at that time were given a chance to get off the train and smoke or grab a magazine or something in the station.
