Built by Thrall Car Manufacturing Company in 1986 as what amounts to being a 60 foot box car with passenger car type trucks and HEP train lines. This was the first generation of these types of cars, known as "MHC-1' and used "BX" trucks that were salvaged from former Railway Express Agency express-reefer cars. Due to several incidents involving these cars and a general decline in the mail and express traffic, these cars were retired by 2004, with this one being retired prior to that in June 2003. TrainWeb acquired the car in 2007 and it was placed on panel track behind the Depot Inn & Suites in La Plata, MO. In 2008, it was opened as part of the Exhibition Of Amtrak History which is a self-guided tour of the history of all-things-Amtrak. Historical information about this car provided by www.amtrakbythenumbers.com and TrainWeb.com.
