Built by American Car & Foundry in 1950 as a Parlor Observation Car for the Great Northern Railway, named "Port Of Vancouver" and numbered 1196. The car was used on the Great Northern's "International" which ran from Seattle, WA to Vancouver, BC. Stored in the 1960's, the car was conveyed to Amtrak in 1971 and numbered 3771. Used on the "Empire Builder", under Amtrak ownership, the car was involved in a grade crossing accident and was retired. Sold into private ownership in 1978. In 1988, the current owner of the car restored it and brought it up to Amtrak standards. Historical Information about this car provided by AAPRCO & amtrakbythenumbers.com. |
