Chapter members enjoyed an excursion
on the Indian Head Central Railway March 18, 2000. The 13-mile
route from the naval base to White Plains, MD, in the south
suburbs of Washington, DC, was surprisingly scenic.
The March 18th excursion ran with Ex-Cape Cod Railroad
F10 #1114 and former Long Island Railroad parlor cars. No. 1114
began life as an F3A for the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio, and later
powered commuter trains in the Boston area. Indian Head Central
plans to start regular dinner train and excursion service during
2000.
During 1999, the Indian Head Naval Warfare Weapons
Center's GE 80-ton engine gets a scrubbing in preparation for a
few runs at the base's Fall Festival. The locomotive ran
excursions using ex-Long Island commuter cars.
