Morning Parade at Alexandria

Alexandria's Union Station provides one of the best train-watching locations in the Washington area. You can see a good variety of Amtrak, Virginia Railway Express, and freight action. Chapter member Mike Schaller offers a five-photo sample from 70 minutes on the morning of Wednesday, July 28, 1999.
7:35 AM -- Freight Q139 heads north on Track 2. 7:49 AM -- Amtrak #84 is just beginning its day-long Northeast Direct trip from Richmond to Boston.
8:35 AM -- VRE #308 pauses on Track 2 as part of its Fredricksburg-to-Alexandria run. 8:40 AM -- Freight Q174 heads north on Track 2.
 
8:45 AM -- Amtrak #20, the Crescent, makes its station stop on Track 3 after an overnight run from New Orleans en route to New York.
