Boise Depot 80th Anniversary
A
good time was had by all at the party. Though
your reporter missed the morning festivities with the mayor and all,
there was still plenty of action in the afternoon with all train
displays running on a beautiful day Saturday and all but the outdoor
trains running Sunday because of inclimate weather. The Boise Tour
Train was running both days and made for a downright nippy ride on
Sunday afternoon. The new elevator was running for trips to the
belltower and the stairs to the upper level were open for views of
the entire main floor as shown below.
The displays were set up by the Rocky Mountain Hi-Railers with their S scale 'Lookout Junction' layout, the TCA (Train Collectors Association) with their O gauge layout and Bruce McCosh brought his nice little HO scale trolley layout, (more information here). Additional vendors included the Thunder Mountain Line, Operation Lifesaver, Sumpter Valley Railroad Restoration, Idaho Historical Railroads and possibly others I have missed.

Outside, along with the Boise Tour Train giving rides around the neighborhood there were several food vendors on the North side of the Depot wafting their delicious smells all over the area and the SIGRS with their G gauge equipment of various scales.
The SIGRS had their trains set up on the South platform in a giant loop running several trains at once via DCC (Digital Command Control). Above is a representative from the standard gauge members of the group.
The Europeans were a presence with this electric locomotive that even yelled 'all abord', or something, in German!
Thomas the Tank Engine made an appearance to the delight of the children familiar with the PBS series.
A couple of motorcars made an apperance Saturday morning coming from Emmett and cascade. We caught them just as they were loading up to go home.
As the kickoff for the Big Mike moving fund the depot event raised over $3700 towards the $13,500 goal!
