NORTH & SOUTH
RY
The North & South Railway was started in 1923 at Illco, mile post ~217 on the Casper Sub. This was at the south end of a projected line to run from Casper to Miles City, MT. Of the projected 335 miles, only the 41 miles north to Salt Creek received rails. From the map, it looks like it followed Prairie Dog Creek thru Sheridan County. Part of the grading and cuts can still be seen from the Dutch Sub which runs north from Dutch Jct., east of Sheridan.
This line hung on until 1935 and was headquartered in Casper for it’s whole existence. It’s roster consisted of two 2-8-0’s, and a 4-6-0, all secondhand.
Thanks to Al Krug for part of the information.
