Barron County Caboose Project Update

2016-05-29 - Paul Almquist

They have found a caboose and made the purchase. Not the one originally planned but this one works. Now it has to be moved from Spooner to the museum grounds just west Cameron. Some restoration is necessary and a canopy will be built over it to protect it from the weather. The purchase has exhausted most of their Caboose Fund. So please help preserve another piece of railroading history with a generous donation. Certainly you can give an amount equal to the price of the average train car or better yet a locomotive, in your favorite scale.

For more information and to see pictures of the project progress see: Barron County Museum Caboose Project
There is donation information and a contact link at the bottom of this web page.

Do you know where the construction of the Soo Line began? No, not Minneapolis or St. Paul nor Sault Saint Marie. "Construction of the new company began in April 1884 at Cameron, Wisconsin. The new company built westward to Turtle Lake and east to Bruce, a distance of 46 miles." (The Soo Line, by Patrick Dorin, pg 11) So Cameron is a great place to have a Soo Line Caboose.
