Photos of 918 during its early years are very hard to come by,. There are a few in books, very few.

918 with a matched set of F's above Lake Almanor,
sometime between 1950 and 1953. This is from a photo of a large sized, framed
lithograph that Alan Barrett found at a flea market some years ago.
Notice that 918 has not had any visible modifications yet, such as larger
fuel tanks, altered skirts and radio antenna. This is also before the B-units
received the back-up light (handed down from retired steam engines). It does
look like it has some of the added grab irons. This is a rare find. |
