On February 23, 2008, Amtrak, Trainweb, and the Depot Inn and Suites, a railroad themed hotel in La Plata, Missouri, inaugurated the Exhibition of Amtrak History, which is housed in two former Amtrak Material Handling cars that were once used for the transportation of Mail, Checked Baggage, and Amtrak Express Shipping. The two cars are labeled with RAMX Reporting Marks.
Car #1429 has a collection of Amtrak information on display dating from May 1971 through the present date, including information from Metrolink and the Coaster, Amtrak's Rail-2-Rail service partners in southern California. The Rail-2-Rail program, itself, as it relates to Amtrak History, has been effective between Oceanside and Ventura since September 2002. The San Diego area portion of the route was added to the program In April 2004.
Some photos and station banners from major events such as the recent relaunch of the Empire Builder and the 1994 revitalization of the Coast Starlight are also displayed.
Car #1451 is being prepared in two phases. The first phase opened on July 31, 2009 and contains Model Trains that were donated by the La Plata Model Railroaders Club
The Table below lists the car numbers of the two cars that were purchased from Amtrak by the Silver Rails Resort. The cars are still in their original Amtrak Phase III Livery Paint Scheme.
