With No9 being a 'modern' Shay,
that required the repalcing of the slide valve cylinders with representation
of Piston valves. I began this operation by making thebasic cylinders
out of short sections of PVC water pipe and styrene tubing Figure 12
Once this was accomplished I returned to the .010 styrene to make
the cylinder jacket (Figure 13) to be applied to the cylinders after
they had beencapped with disks of .1 styrene. Figure 14
Once the jacket was applied, it was time to bind the cylinders together into a single assembly. This was accomplished with a piece of .040 styrene that acted as a plate between the three cylinders Figure 15. Figure 16 shows the finished assembly. |
