Last night was the first thing I've done on the railroad in a week or so since raising the 2x4 frame for the first half ot the engine terminal. I removed a turnout from its old ties and laid it in the engine terminal on new wood. I'm hoping I will have the first track in the engine terminal done this evening which will give me my first run around track in the new Cassville Yard. Trying to decide the next construction priorities. I think getting the last 4x8 section up should come next, with at least one track in the staging yard. A single 12 foot 2x8 should suffice for current staging needs. I figger I can mount it to the wall of The Shop with shelf brackets and some temporary supports for now until I decide a final layout of staging.
The next 4x8 is gonna be a little bit complicated since I have to make allowances to support both the enginehouse and a turntable. I think that the easiest method is gonna be to use a full sheet of 3/4 PT plywood and cut a circle out in it for the turntable pit. I'll notch the 2x4s to recess the circle and use it as the pit bottom, and will provide additional 2x4s for extra strength and support. Once the pit bottom is in place, I can use 1/2 styrofoam for the pitwalls and paint the whole assemblege concrete color.

Welp since it was my turn to cook
tonight, and I had to go to the store after lunch I dodn;t get aanything
much done on the layout. I did pull out four sections of rail to
nail down on the ties, maybe tomorrow. Right now the plan is to go
to the lumberyard early Friday morning and try to get the last frame together.
Then the balance of the weekend can be spent laying rail on the ties.
I believeI need to change the bandsawblade and mill out a few more ties
before finishing the tracks.
