FIREMAN
KILLED
JOHN ROTHERY, JR. FATALLY INJURED AT A
BRIDGE
John Rothery, Jr., of Oneonta, fireman on passenger train No. 7,
running from Kingston to Oneonta, was fatally injured Thursday
afternoon about 2:40 by his head coming in contact with what is
known as the Widow Keator bridge, which spans the track of the
Ulster & Delaware railroad on the old mountain road at the foot
of Hurley mountain. The reason for his being on the outside of the
engine at that time is not known. The injured man was brought to
this city on the way freight and was conveyed by ambulance from the
union depot to the Kingston City Hospital where he died about 5
o'clock. His skull was fractured. Mr. Rothery was a son of John
Rothery, Sr., one of the oldest engineers in the service of the
Ulster & Delaware, who is now engineer on the Kingston hill
engine.
