The Ulster &
Delaware yards at Rondout bustled with activity during its height.
They not only freight yards, but the U&D locomotive shops as
well. With all these actvities locomotives commonly refered to as
"switchers" or "yard goats" were used to handle the switching
operations within the yard. The U&D had a total of two of these
little locomotives, although they were often supplemented by one or
more of the larger locomotives in the busy season. #13 and 14 both
had long careers in the Rondout yards and served up until the New
York Central takeover in 1932.
