There are thousands of trolley and railroad related web sites.
Many others provide extensive links, and it would be time consuming and redundant to duplicate the effort.
The following are a few sites that we found most interesting.  Many will have links to other sites.
If you know of a site that may be a particular interest, and should be added to our list, let us know.
Please report any "dead" links, so we can change or remove them.
Amtrak - The Nation's passenger railroad system. Check their "specials" limited bargain fares.

Boone & Scenic Valley - Boone, Iowa.  Steam and diesel rides on the mainline through Iowa cornfields and across the spectacular high bridge.  Also a
short trolley ride through town.

CERA - The Central Electric Railfan's Association is one of the oldest organizations dedicated to electric railways.  Located in Chicago, they present
programs and fan trips.  They are best known for their excellent series of books on transit topics.

CA&E - A website devoted to the Chicago, Aurora & Elgin  interurban railway.  Tons of photos and info.

Great Third Rail - Another site devoted to the Chicago, Aurora and Elgin interurban.

Chicago L - A nice non-official site devoted to the Chicago subways and elevated system.

Chicago Freight Tunnels - Wikipedia history and photos of the network of Chicago Freight Tunnels.

CTA - The official Chicago Transit Authority site with subway, elevated and bus information.

Dave's Electric Railroads - A guide and links to various electric railways. Plenty of photos.

Don Ross Photos - Lots of historical and current railroad and trolley photos.

East Penn Traction Club - A great site loaded with links to other sites including museums, hobby shops, organizations, etc.

East Troy Electric Railway - East Troy, WI.  Museum ride through Wisconsin countryside on former TMER&L interurban line.  Collection includes
equipment from various electric railways.

Fox River Trolley Museum - South Elgin, IL.  One of the more scenic trolley rides along the Fox River and through a nature preserve.  Equipment
from CNS&M. CTA, CSS&SB and others.

Gomaco Trolley - Rebuilds authentic trolleys and builds replicas for heritage trolley systems and museums.

Heritage Trolley - A site operated by the Seashore Trolley Museum featuring Heritage (non-museum) trolley operations in the U.S.

Historic Aerials - Lots of aerial photos taken at different years, mostly in urban areas.  Good way to trace right-of-ways.  Features include overlays of
present streets and highways.

Illinois Railway Museum - Union, IL.  The largest railway museum in the U.S.  Over 300 pieces of steam, diesel and electric railway equipment.  
Rides on mainline through the countryside or a streetcar loop around the grounds.  Also, operating trolleybuses.

Interchange Yard - One of the most extensive sites of railway related links arranged by category that we know of.

Kenosha Electric Streetcar - Kenosha, WI.  Wisconsin's only public electric transit system.  Five former Toronto PCC cars painted in various
schemes travel loop through downtown.  Connects METRA station, government buildings, stores, new public museum and lakefront park area.
Except for special events, only one car operates daily.  Trip takes about 15 minutes.  Fare is 25 cents.

Kenosha Streetcar Society - Organization promoting the Kenosha Streetcar and the history of electric railways in Kenosha and Wisconsin.

Light Rail Transit Association - Site devoted to info on Light Rail systems throughout the world.

METRA - Operates commuter rail in and around Chicago including the IC electric.  Check their special weekend pass for unlimited riding.

Metro Transit - Minneapolis Transit System featuring "Hiawatha Light Rail Line" connecting downtown with the Mall of America and other attractions.

Mid-Continent Railway Museum - North Freedom, WI.  Nice ride through rolling Wisconsin countryside.  Home of C&NW 1385 and other steam
engines.  Diesels currently pull trains while steam engines are being overhauled.  Near Wisconsin Dells and Circus World Museum.

Midwest Electric Railway - Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.  Operates on grounds of Old Threshers Museum.
Various trolleys, including open cars transport riders from campgrounds and among various attractions.  Major operation occurs during week prior and
including Labor Day weekend.  Also, narrow gauge steam line and other attractions.

Milwaukee Transit Archives & Museum - A repository for photos, documents, books, films, artifacts and other materials related to Milwaukee area
transit history. Small museum full of displays.

Milwaukee Transport Co. - Very nice unofficial site devoted to streetcars and buses of Milwaukee.

Minnesota Museum Of Transportation - Museum operates several sites and attractions including:  Osceola & St. Croix Railway, Excelsior Steamboat
and the Jackson Street Roundhouse.

Minnesota Streetcar Museum - Operates Como-Harriet Streetcar and Excelsior Streetcar Lines.

Model Train Shows -  A good source for finding model trains shows, railroadianna shows, etc.

Museum Of Transportation - St. Louis.  Large collection of steam and diesel, with a few pieces of trolley equipment.  Short trolley ride on grounds.

National Railroad Museum - Greenbay, WI.  Nice collection of steam and diesel equipment.  Impressive visitors center.  Short ride around museum
grounds.

Chicago North Shore And Milwaukee Railroad - Facebook Page for fans of the North Shore Line. Discussioins - Photos - Videos.

Railserve - An extensive site with links, photos, classified ads, etc.  Just about everything related to railroads.

Riverside & Great Northern - 15" Gauge Steam & Diesel Trains Travel Through Scenic Wisconsin Dells Area.

St. Louis Metro - Transit system featuring Light Rail line connecting airport, downtown and attractions.

Shore Line Interurban Historical Society - Chicago based organization devoted to the Chicago area interurbans.  Also, covers other area systems.  
Best known for publication of First & Fastest magazine.

South Shore Line - From Chicago to South Bend.  Now operated by NICTD with newer equipment, this line still retains much of its interurban
heritage, especially street running in Michigan City and on the portion through Indiana countryside.

TMER&THS - Official site of The Milwaukee Electric Railway & Transit Historical Society.  Main focus is on Milwaukee area systems, but other
topics are also covered.  Publishes "Live Wires" newsletter and produced "Milwaukee's Rapid Transit" video.

TRAINS Magazine - Magazine dedicated to trains.  Events page features shows, excursions, etc.

The Wisconsin Electric Railway Historical Society -  Our Facebook page. News. Information. Ect.

Whiskey River Railway- Wisconsin's longest 1/3 scale train ride.  Steam and diesel engines pull trains from Little A-Merric-A amusement park in
Marshall.  Pass through tunnel, farm fields, and woods.  View various animals including sheep and Llamas.

World's Greatest Hobby - Site devoted to railroads and railfans.
