Photos - Metropolitan Electric Locomotives
Fig. 1: British Westinghouse Locomotive 1906
Metropolitan Railway
electric locomotive photographed in about 1906 inside Neasden shed. This is No 8,
which was one of the ten ordered from British Westinghouse in October 1904 and delivered
in 1905. The locos weighed 50 tons and had four 200 hp motors. This example is
in original condition except for the modified shoegear. The bodies and bogies were
built by Metropolitan Amalgamated in Birmingham and the electrical equipment was supplied
by BW. These locomotives lasted until 1922, when they were replaced by new
locomotives built by Vickers. This photo was kindly supplied by
"teckytony".

Fig 2:
Metropolitan Vickers Locomotive 1922
Metropolitan-Vickers built
electric locomotive on the test track at South Ealing in the 1980s. This is No 12,
Sarah Siddons which is the preserved example of a batch of 20 built in 1922 to replace the
earlier locomotives. This is perhaps the most beautiful non-steam machine possessed
by any railway in the UK. Photo by the late Bob Greenaway.
