We follow Norfolk Southern GP38AC 4131 and its train northward from King's Mountain and catch it at McKinney.
TT2806
Below Somerset, Kentucky, not far from the Tennessee state line, we hed into the mountains west of Tateville where three massive cuts are located. At the middle cut we see a northbound behind NS Dash 9-40CW 9391. The second track was installed in 1999 to eliminate one of the biggest bottelnecks on the entire Rathole.
TT2807
From the same bridge we look the other direction and see a southbound train of steel slabs in gondolas heading our direction with Dash9-44CW 9008 leading.
TT2808
Changing lenses, we see the train just before in passes under our highway overpass perch. This perspective shows just how massive this cut is.
TT2809
We move one bridge south and pick up a southbound double-stack train with NS GP50 7052 on the point.
TT2810
