UP Challenger #3985 Excursion

Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 Challenger No. 3985 pulled a benefit excursion run from Council Bluffs, Iowa on September 9, 2000.

Proceeds from ticket sales for the ride were to help restore the Council Bluffs Carnegie Library which will house the Union Pacific museum collection.

The Challenger arrived in Council Bluffs on September 7 and was on display at the Golden Spike Park on September 8. It was to depart its home base at Cheyenne, Wyo., at 8:30 a.m. September 6, making service stop at Lodge Pole, Nebr., at 11:45 a.m., before arriving at North Platte at 3 p.m.
