The West Cumbria
Railway Modellers were formed in 1999 by a group of model railway
enthusiasts. Some were members of a
former club in Workington while others were new to the club
scene. They used a spare office on an industrial
estate in Workington that was surplus to the use of the occupier of the
premises. He was a founder member of the
group. When he closed down his taxi business, the group was
left with no where to meet. As there were no suitable premises to be
found at a realistic rent, the
membership began to dwindle. The Committee decided not to wind up the
group but leave the club in stasis. Three members are now
planning a new 00 gauge layout based on Conwy in North Wales. The time
period will be set in the 1930s and 40s, therefore the there will be a
predominance of London Midland & Scottish Railway rolling stock.
The team leader is Tom Jenkins who is a member of the Maryport Model
Club and will use one of the clubrooms at Maryport to start work on the
layout.
