 TGV Trainset Formations

TGVweb > TGV Trainsets > Trainset Formations

Serve this page from: California, USA / Pisa, Italy

The formations for each type of TGV trainset is detailed below. There are hundreds of TGV trainsets in service, and within a family there are always variations due to modifications made over the lifetime of each trainset. A note to trainspotters and rivet-counters: The formations in this page are not intended to be exact, but rather give the most representative configuration. In every trainset diagram, powered axles are indicated in red. You can skip directly to:

TGV PSE (Paris Sud-Est)

This is a typical configuration. All seating is coach (2+2 in second class, 2+1 in first). Details may vary from trainset to trainset. For the PSE family, the main variations are the following. Eight trainsets were formerly all first-class, subsequently converted to the standard configuration. As all the PSE trainsets were refurbished, new interiors were fitted similar to the TGV Réseau (see below), with a total of 350 seats (rather than 377, mainly because of differences in R1 and R8.) The configuration below is for the original PSE sets, prior to refurbishment in the late 1990s.
