    my grdfa worked for Postal Telegraph - He worked on the lines in winter time from St. John's to Holyrood, walking on snowshoes and fixing wires etc. In the summer time he took a crew of men & went off on the train (which picked him up anywhere he wished) with supplies for the summer. They lived in tents & worked on the pole lines
